Esther update April 2023. When the Michigan farm closed shop in 2018, Esther went to a new home, where in 2022 she had a c-section and was subsequently sold. This week we were contacted by the following owner that Esther needed to be rehomed, and were we interested? We said YES!! Francis at Wooly Dog Down swooped in and picked Esther up and she is back here at Five-Points in NC. She was headed for a sale barn if no one was interested, and we are extremely grateful for the chance to give her a retirement home!
Born 6/28/14. Polled. Esther was sired by our buck Wood Bridge Farm Creighton, and through the kindness of Wooly Dog Down Farm she came to us. She has turned out beautifully, and we are lucky to have her. Negative for CAE and Johne’s Feb. 2016 MSU. CAE and Johne’s negative 4/17/23 NC state lab.
Esther, oh my goodness, she is too smart for her own good. Everything has to be latched, she can figure out all the doors. It’s kind of fun.
During her first pregnancy she aborted at 2 months along, (my fault, I moved her to NC). It just so happened that at the time I had a bottle kid I really didn’t want to deal with, so I offered the kid to Esther. Esther became completely devoted to the baby, AND she came into milk, raising that kid to a big fat healthy doe! Considering that Esther herself was a bottle kid, I was very delighted that her instincts kicked in and she adopted the bottle kid the way that she did.
This is Esther’s tiny udder that came in with her sheer will to milk and raise her adopted kid. She is a joy to milk too, buttery soft, open orifices, good teat size. This is a good little dairy goat!
